Many people simply cannot afford to pay for solicitors and barristers to attend court on their behalf and often have to attend court in person. A McKenzie Friend is someone who can assist the litigant in person during the court proceedings and, more importantly, the McKenzie Friend does not have to be legally trained.
Based on the increased numbers of litigants-in-person, new guidance rules have been issued by the President of the Family Division on how and when a McKenzie Friend can be used. You can obtain a copy of the updated guidance rules by clicking here.
